Our Kids Ministry Standards

Background Checks:
First Church Knox is committed first and foremost to kids’ safety and well-being. We make sure all of our Kids Ministry volunteers and staff are Background Checked and wearing identifying badges. We only allow parents and Background Checked people to enter our Kids’ Loft.
2+ adult rule:
We require that all kids are supervised by two or more adults at all times.
Kids’ Check-In:
We digitally check in all kids for safety purposes. Our volunteers are happy to help you check your child in!

It is our heart to see kids grow in the love, wisdom, and peace of Jesus. We do this through interactive learning, outward service to our church and community, and leading other kids in Christ-oriented mission.

We utilize Deep Blue curriculum on Sunday mornings which aligns with our goal to cultivate an environment of safety, fun, and acceptance for all children.
Meet our Children’s Director
Elizabeth was raised in Decatur, Alabama, and graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in Elementary Education. During college, she became involved in the Methodist church and found a strong sense of community while serving on staff in children’s ministry. It was also during this time that she met her husband, Dale TeGantvoort, and the two later moved to Knoxville for him to pursue graduate studies. Since then, she has built her career in education and has taught in Knox County Schools for the past four years. Whether serving in children’s ministry, singing in choir, or participating in the Young Adults small group, Elizabeth has found First Church to be a meaningful part of her life in Knoxville.
